i have ABSOLUTELY no motivation to run. like none. not even an ounce. i go out for a run, and get bored after like 10 minutes, so i turn around and go home. as soon as you guys start running again, CALL ME. i have phone anxiety and will never call someone to go running, but you shoudl call me. alright.
also listen to this. my coach has us doing speed endurance before strengthwork this summer. tempo runs now, hilly runs added in in july. which means speed all summer. great way to get injured and burn out. im beginning to question things. i miss sully.
alright so call me.

HELP

Jamie first of all DONT RUN BY YOURSELF!!! Its dangerous, you could get raped or something. No, but I know how you feel. I feel the same way all the time in the winter. But, I have an excuse cause its really really cold and miserable and not too many chances to run with people.(I love you Sean Gallagher!!! ;D) But you shouldn't be running alone. Get someone to run with, that will help a lot. Just yesterday I saw three Pollocks(Mr. Pollock, Ryan, and Andy) all with their shirts off running down Buena Vista and then just this afternoon I saw Jason Smith running down Aviation Road with a bandana on his head.(I don't know why I included how they looked, its just what I remember.) And there is always that great group of guys every Sunday morning. Pus, Sully runs every day later on in the evening(around 4 or 5) and Im sure if you gave him a call he would run with you. And starting next week(Tuesday for me) we will also be running, little miliage at first untill our official summer training begins.(God, I can't wait. ) So my opinion is there are plenty of people to run with and help get you motivated. So get your head out of your ass and give someone a call. Hell if you really need it, Ill talk to Danny for you and he can tell Andy to call you. As far as the whole speed during the summer thing goes, that kinda goes against any training principle Ive ever heard of, but I don't know anything about College training. That really is a hard spot, Im not sure what I would do in that situation. But if you think about it, tempo runs arn't speed, I think we do them(or runs just like them such as negative splits) all summer. So basically if our training program mirrors yours at all just do your running with us and you know it will be good because it was designed by Sully and Underwood, two of the greatest coaches ever. PS-And Tom, I just thought you should know, I was eating a bowl of Cinnomon Toast Crunch when I saw that picture and I almost spit milk all over the computer cause I laughed so hard.

tempo=shorter strides, faster turnover, more steps, more stress on weak legs, etc.
and besides that, staying aerobic at your lactic threshold pace for 20 minutes when youre out of shape...its nearly impossible.

A, then striders count as tempo (If what you are saying is true) and B, threshold pace is much slower when you are out of shaqpe, so it should feel like teh same effort. Threshold is measured as 85% of max or up (Thats both effort and heart rate) so it is basically 6 in one, and half dozen in the other.

jer, theres a difference between LT and AT...lactic threshold is the point at which your legs begin to develop lactic acid. anaerobic threshold is when you go anaerobic. theyre related, but not the same. in the season, you should reach your LT at a slower pace than your AT (unless youre in bad shape). but early on, when you havent run in a few weeks, your AT might be just as slow or even slower than your LT.
as for strides, they are more or less the same as tempo pace, just faster.
wait, that last sentence didnt make sense...why are you talking about strides? its totally unrelated

i didnt say quickening your turnover is bad. i said that with a quick turnover for an entire run, you take more steps. which in turn, is painful on weak legs. which in turn makes you tire more easily. which in turn psyches you out. which was my point.

Ah would you two just shut up and run. Enough of this analizing crap. Only you two could take a simple thing like running and make it so complicated.
