I won the mile (4:54.6) and the 800 (2:07.8) at the summer track series, and will be representing my country in both events this August in Beijing.
Gold is expected in both events, unless Bill Vener really piles it on.

Anyone know why Emily Mcabe didn't compete??? I'm pretty sure she qualified for the trials in the 10k???
And also it's pretty cool, two jumpers from Cornell qualified for the trials, a girl in the long and a guy in the triple (the guy also won nationals). But ya, the girl (Jeomi Maduka) got 12th in prelims which qualified her for finals where she got 12th. The guy (Muhamad Halim) got 9th in prelims and the finals are today. It's pretty cool to see people you actually know in the Olympic Trials.

I don't know why McCabe didn't run, I know she was hurt and I think was coming back from it and I don't think she was running that well so maybe she decided to skip it and get healthy

she didnt run well at all at freihofers, so i'm guessing her recovery is just slow-going... its really unfortunate since 2012 is so far off...

So no Alan Webb in the Olympics, he got 5th and was 10ths of a second off of 3rd. Kinda disapointing after how amazing he ran earlier in the year. I have to say that I hate this naturalized citizens bullSteve Soprano. I mean, Bernard Legat, amazing amazing amazing runner. Good for him, I'm a big fan. But why does he have to leave Kenya (who he won multiple Olympic medals for) and come here and take away spots from "real" Americans. Not even in just one event, he took up a spot in the 5k and 1500.
It's bad enough that Kenyans and Ethiopians own all distance events at World Championships and Olympics and all that and embarass us there, but they have to come here and own our own Olympic Trials too??? I mean, it's one thing if you were born here to parents who imigrated or if you came here at a very young age like Lopez Lomong (who also qualified for the Olympics in the 1500). I mean, then you can consider yourself an American, you actually grew up here and called it home for the majority of your life. But just deciding after you've already competed in the Olympics for another country and grew up there and lived there your entire life that you feel like competing for a different country and taking away spots from people like Alan Webb or whoever else.
I mean, even if Legat wins a medal for the US, it's not like the US really won the medal. We borrowed a Kenyan and had him win it for us. But hey, maybe if Alan Webb qualified he would have had a chance to put things together for a month down the road and won us a medal or at least came close. I don't know, it just seems unfair to me that our spots in the Olympics are being taken by people who were Kenyan just a couple years ago. And I'll admit I reallly don't know too much about the facts of any of this, why Legat became a naturalized citizen or what goes into it, but I just watched the 1500 finals tonight and it got me thinking and I guess I just feel bad for guys like Webb.
I'm not racist obviously and I'm fine with people deciding they want to live in the US or become US citizens. But you can't represent the Untied States as our president if you weren't born here, why should be able to do any different at the Olympics???

just skimming, leo came when he was one, webb has run absolutely no quality runs this entire year steve, last year he ran well, this year he dnf'd multiple races and his only ok race was a 1:47 800 (pr of 1:43). He was in at best 3:55 shape and he finished right where that fitness should have gotten him. Legat had to renounce his kenyan citizenship and is pretty much hated by his entire home country in order for him to help pay back what america has done for him in his lifetime.
and ps, i ran yesterday

Ok Sean, well first of all Webb set the American record in the mile less than a year ago...I'd say that's a pretty good race. And second, I said word for word, "And I'll admit I reallly don't know too much about the facts of any of this, why Legat became a naturalized citizen or what goes into it..." So I don't know what Legat had to do or why he did it. What do you mean by what America has done for him in his lifetime? I was more thinking along the lines he figured it'd be easier to win a gold medal running for the US. He can qualify both in the 5k and 1500 in the US trials a lot easier than he would be able to in the Kenyan ones. And since it is easier he could focus his training more on the Olympics and less on the trials. If he was running for Kenya maybe he'd have to pick one event or taper more for the trials or whatever.
And his reasons aside, I still think it sucks for people trying to qualify for the Olympics and they have to compete against Kenyans. Just like it's always sucked for people in college trying to make All-American DI when they have to compete against all the Africans running at American colleges. They've even gone so far to change the rules for All American to accomodate for this...now you don't have to be top 35 in the race, just top 35 American citizens.
And PS, f**k you

yeah steve, I know I'd love to live in a country where they kill you based on what tribe you are from. But that probably didnt have much to do about why he came to the US, it was probably more cause it was easier racing.

And PS, f**k you so many things are wrong with that. first of all, the bulk of a runners improvement comes in college, does it not? where did lagat go to college? Washington State University. secondly, i don't think bernard was really concerned about making the kenyan olympic team... i believe his 3:26 is a kenyan national record (most likely erased from the books when he disowned kenya), and a 12:59... well i think he'd do okay with that. thirdly, nobody is trying to make the olympics by competing against kenyans... he's an american. FOURTH, you're really gonna crap on lopez lamong? the f**kin guy was never trained in africa... he spent his entire running career in the US... at a Class D school, of all places. i'm proud to say i ran against him. you're a crappy american track and field fan. when you make the olympics, i won't be rooting for you. i still think youre nice though
