just coming from a former qby runner and professional slacker of the summer training. I did absolutely nothing going into my junior year of cross country. Nothing, no LSD, no doubles, no mountain runs, maybe 30min once or twice a month.
Buttttt i still showed up to do doubles when school started and made it through the season fine, my times dropped, I dont think i burned out. I just think it gave me a more solid base for skiing, track, and the next xc season.
Its always been the rule that the doubles are for for veteran runners (juniors and seniors) and I agree with that. But then again, your what? 9th or 10th on the team? I think you show up to more runs than some of the seniors.

sully would most likely tell you to go home newell but if you did show up for some reason.....
i dont want you to: 1. Jamie Anderson about how early it is 2. talk at all haha
there nice to do for the real dedicated guys that trained throughout the summer following the coaches schedule. Not jsut running every once in a while, not saying that thats what u did. What im saying is its going to kill you overall, like in school and your performance at practice, unless your in great shape

I have to disagree with you brian. As research shows "Since exercise has proven to be effective in heightening concentration levels and performance, plan to exercise both before studying and before the exam." (http://www.health.arizona.edu/health_topics/mental_health/managingstressexam.htm) Knowing your a person who likes alot of sleep it was difficult for you to get your ass to morning runs. But i dont think i once had a problem with running early. even wrestlers and soccer players do moring workouts.

Most people can't slack all summer and still run as fast as they would like. Although come to think of it, my senior year if I had not ran a step all summer and just started when season started I would have ran better at States and Feds at the end of the year...but that's only because I wouldn't have gotten injured. Point is, if Aaron really wants to do doubles the person to talk to is Sully, but I'm pretty sure I already know what he'll say. And yes Neal, excercise before school is fine, but if you're sacrificing sleep and only getting 5hours then not so much. Edit: Where is "The Wise One" when you need him. I'm just waiting for him to come in here with like a full page researched and refrenced post that ends this debate.

but we need to remember doing doubles in wrestling and soccer isn't the same as a 40 min run. (no offense Neal) a run is a constant tax that requires time to build up if you want them to help you. jumping into them with the exception of Benway is risky. In soccer they lift, then take a break its different
